Music at Beckenham Baptist Church

Music plays a key role in our worship – as musicians we seek to help everyone encounter and respond to Jesus, through an eclectic mix of musical styles from classical to contemporary. At our morning services, you may hear our band, choir and fine pipe organ.

We warmly welcome musicians of all ages and levels. If you would like to get involved, do come and talk to our Director of Music, James Carpenter, after any of the services, or email.

Our musicians have written many inspiring worship songs. A collection by Steve Cracknell can be found here.

Jill Newman, one of our regular musicians for many years, has a collection of songs for teachers and children in primary schools here; do also visit her youtube channel, Season of Singing.

Meet some of our musicians

Neto started learning the drums when he was 3, and was a music scholar at Kingsdale Foundation School. Besides drums, he also plays piano, bass guitar, steel pans, percussion and violin. He intends to pursue his studies at music college.

Our music team is led by James Carpenter FRCO. He combined studying maths at Warwick with an organ scholarship at the University and St Mary’s Church Warwick. Subsequently he was Director of Music at New Road Baptist Church Oxford, becoming Director of Music at Beckenham Baptist Church in 1998. James received his fellowship of the Royal College of Organists on the 4th of March 2023.
Away from church he is a Professor of Medical Statistics at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
