What We Believe

WHY CHURCH?
The most wonderful thing that can surely happen to anyone is that they have their spiritual life reborn and can come to know the Living God for themselves.

All those doubts about his existence swept away.
All that guilt about the things you’ve done wrong removed.
All that fear about dying and going to hell gone.

Instead you actually know God – the God who created heaven and earth – as a living Presence in your own life, as real to you as your husband or wife or your mother or father. You know that God is no longer someone unknown just to be feared, but someone who loves you and cares for you and who, for a long time, has sought to draw you to himself. Life takes on a whole new meaning. You now know where you came from, where you are going, and why you are here.

Just a ‘pipe dream’ you say? Not so! The essential message of the Christian Gospel is that God has revealed himself to us in the person of his Son, Jesus Christ. More than that, Jesus died and rose again so that the barrier of sin that existed between us and God could be broken down and a way back to God opened for all who will truly turn to God in Christ.

‘To all who received Jesus, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become the children of God’ [John 1:12]

WHY ME?
God is our refuge and strength, ready to help when we need him. We stand fearless at the cliff-edge of doom…
Psalm 46v1

We’re all like sheep who’ve wandered off and got lost. We’ve all done our own thing, gone our own way, and God has piled all our sins, everything we’ve done wrong on him, on him.
Isaiah 53v6

Everyone who calls “Help God!” gets help.
Romans 10v13

If we admit our sins – make a clean breast of them – he’ll forgive our sins and purge us from all wrongdoing.

This is how much God loved the world. He gave his one and only Son so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him anyone can have a whole and lasting life.
